The German present tense (Präsens) is one of the most important parts of the language.
It is used to talk about:
- actions happening now
- general facts
- future plans (very often)

What Is the German Present Tense?
The present tense is used for:
- Ich arbeite heute. (I work today.)
- Ich lerne Deutsch. (I learn German.)
- Morgen fahre ich nach Berlin. (Tomorrow I go to Berlin.)
Notice: German often uses present tense for the future.
How to Conjugate Regular Verbs
Take the verb lernen (to learn).
Remove the ending -en and add new endings:

| wir | lernen |
| ihr | lernt |
| sie/Sie | lernen |
Examples:
- Ich lerne Deutsch.
- Du lernst schnell.
- Wir lernen zusammen.

Irregular Verbs in Present Tense
Some verbs change in du and er/sie/es forms.
Example: sprechen (to speak)

| er/sie/es | spricht |
| wir | sprechen |
| ihr | sprecht |
| sie/Sie | sprechen |
Example:
- Er spricht Deutsch.
- Sprichst du Englisch?

sein (to be)
- ich bin
- du bist
- er ist
- wir sind
- ihr seid
- sie sind
haben (to have)
- ich habe
- du hast
- er hat
- wir haben
- ihr habt
- sie haben
Word Order Reminder
In German sentences, the verb is usually in position 2.
Examples:
- Ich lerne Deutsch.
- Heute lerne ich Deutsch.
- Morgen arbeite ich zu Hause.
Common Mistakes
Incorrect:
- Ich lern Deutsch.
- Du lernen schnell.
- Er lernen Deutsch.
Correct:
- Ich lerne Deutsch.
- Du lernst schnell.
- Er lernt Deutsch.
